INTRODUCING SABABA’S NEW
GESHER JR. COUNSELOR TRAINING PROGAM
Gesher is a Hebrew word meaning “bridge.” Sababa’s new Gesher Jr. Counselor Training Program is a summer leadership opportunity for rising 12th graders to bridge the gap from being a camper to being a paid staff member.
One of the goals of our Gesher Jr. Counselor program is the development of leadership skills. We hope that as our campers move forward in their Sababa journey they will learn how to play a part in creating our Sababa community.
Our Gesherim will spend their first three-weeks participating in all Sababa programs and specialties plus have additional opportunities with members of the camp leadership team to shape their own leadership skills while learning how to care for campers’ emotional, physical, and mental wellbeing and promote positive experiences at Sababa. Starting with week 4, Gesherim will continue their leadership journey as they transition to becoming a Jr. Counselor. Jr. Counselors will support our camper’s daily routines from wake-up, helping lead electives and leading night time Sababa rituals.
We know that after a difficult and stressful Junior year in high school, our Sababa teens need time to let the stress wash into the ocean as a Sababa Camper. They also need and want to start contributing to their community as paid leaders for the next Sababa generation. This Gesher program gives our rising high school seniors the chance to fulfill both needs in one amazing program. We hope that this summer program will provide Gesherim a meaningful closure of their camper career as they begin their journey as camp counselors and leaders at Sababa.
